Rookie Spotlight: Ladies’ Code

In this new series, we will be spotlighting rookie groups who have left a strong and favorable impression.  Since rookies haven’t released much by the way of singles/albums/MVs, these spotlights will be short and a way to recognize the members and familiarize yourself with the groups. Today, the spotlight is on vocal girl group, Ladies’ Code!!

Prior to debut, members were already part of the music industry. Leader Ashley was popular on YouTube for her covers of kpop songs. RiSe had represented Japan in the Miss Korea 2009 pageant and won an award. She  participated in “Birth of a Great Star,” placing in the Top 12. Rise also was a part of the season 3 cast of “We Got Married,” with fellow “Birth of a Great Star” contestant, David Oh. Main vocalist, Sojung, finished in the Top 8 of the talent show “Voice of Korea.”

On Feburary 24, Polaris Entertainment began releasing teaser videos for the debut of the group. Starting with RiSe, individual teaser videos were released everyday (order: Sojung, EunB, Zuny, and finally Ashley). The teasers featured the members using various weapons in slow motion. On March 3, a teaser video for Ladies’ Code’s first EP, CODE #01 Bad Girl, was released, and four days later, the MV for the title track, “Bad Girls” was also released. The MV featured the girls taking revenge on “bad boy” types, interspersed with scenes of them dancing. The track itself is a contemporary jazz song that tells the story of a girl, who although seems pitiful and weak to the man, is a bad girl who wishes for the guy to leave. On April 18, Ladies’ Code released the live version video of “DaDa La” from their first EP. Later in April, they released a MV for “Not Crying,” which featured behind the scene clips.

On July 28, teasers began to be released for Ladies’ Code’s new single, “Hate You.” The teasers featured a darker image, and the girls with dolls and marionettes. On August 6, the MV for “Hate You” was released, and the girls are depicted as in a doll-like state, where what happen to dolls, also happened to them, and they were controlled.  The track is a pop-acoustic song about being in a bad relationship but being unwilling to let go.

On August 21, Ladies’ Code released their follow up track, “Pretty Pretty,” from their EP by the same name. The disco-style track is from the perspective of a pretty girl who wishes to be left alone. The colorful music video features the girls being pretty and the objects of adoration, who tire of such things, and change into a more nerdy/relaxed version of themselves.

So, what can we expect from Ladies’ Code? Well, first, the ladies have been nominated for rookie of the year awards. So, their talents have been recognized, and hopefully, will continue to be acknowledged. We can also expect more variety show appearances. Sojung, EunB, and Rise have been participants on “1000 Song Challenge.” RiSe has participated in “Running Man” and “Mamma Mia.” The ladies have also released several behind the scene videos on their YouTube channel. Hopefully, there will be more of those.

Ladies’ Code has shown off their vocal prowess, and we look forward to their future endeavors.
