Editor’s Drama Picks: “Shut Up Flower Boy Band”

In addition to doing an “Editor’s Picks” for artists, I’m doing one for K-dramas.  I will discuss the dramas I absolutely love. Admittedly, I’m really behind on dramas lately, but I’ve seen some really great ones.

Today, I will discuss the awesome music-related drama, Shut Up Flower Boy Band.  The drama is a story about being a teenager, love, music, and friendship. This show had me instantly hooked, and I was constantly in tears. Regardless, this drama was fantastic and everyone should watch it. Oh, and don’t give up on it after 3 episodes. HAHAHA

The Story:

The drama follows the lives of the band, Eye Candy. Consisting of a bunch of teenage guys from “the wrong side of the tracks,” so to speak, Eye Candy is a band who strike it big, thanks to the internet.  The band is a popular amongst their neighborhood and rule their school. However, when their school is closed, the group is relocated to a more affluent high school. The group encounters a rival band, Strawberry Fields, who currently rule the new school the characters attend.  Strawberry Fields not only creates trouble for Eye Candy, but they also discover things about themselves.  Eye Candy enters a competition for a “Battle of the Bands,”  facing off against Strawberry Fields. There is of course a heartbreaking experience for the characters, but I will not say what it is, since it would be a major spoiler.  The group doesn’t win, but suddenly find themselves in the spotlight, due to a video of their performance (including an injured guitarist), being put online. Faced with growing fame, Eye Candy must deal with extra attention and the issues the attention created. Their family relationships are tested, as well as their friendship with each other. In typical k-drama fashion, there is a love line that creates troubles for the band.  The main character, Ji Hyuk, must choose between his music, friends, and his crush, Im Soo Ah.  Eye Candy strives to create a balance between their personalities, dreams, and the culture of being a famous musician. What wins in the end: Music, Love, Friendship, the System, or can there be a balance?  Watch it and see!!

The OST:

I just have to say that this drama has one of my favorite OSTs. The fact that the characters are the ones actually singing, makes it even better.  With songs with a real rock feel and sweet ballads, the OST for Shut Up Flower Boy Band should be on everyone’s list.

Lee Min Ki: “Not In Love”

Sung Joon: “Jaywalking”

Sung Joon: “Wake Up”

L and Kim Ye Rim: “Love You, Like You”

Sung Joon: “Today”

I wanted to add Kim Min Suk’s “How Come,” but every video of it was blocked.

In closing, be sure to watch Shut Up Flower Boy Band. You’ll find yourself invested in the characters and moved to tears. An emotional tale of teenage hopes, dreams, and love, this drama is sure to join your list of awesomeness!
